Forgetting the Details
Observation:
Moses was tasked to become the leader of the Israelites and bring them out of slavery. In his excitement/stressful state (he was very apprehensive about all this since he wasn't a great public speaker) he forgot one tiny but very important detail. Hebrew custom calls for the sons to be circumcised. That's like going on a road trip, but forgetting to bring your licence! Think about it: Here is the soon to be leader of the Hebrew nation - a Hebrew himself - and he can't keep his own laws?
God took this so seriously that it is believed that He afflicted Moses with sickness to the point of near death. Zipporah saw this and circumcised her son. I don't know how much time passed between Moses lying there dying and her figuring out what to do but, rest assured, it was probably very quick!
Application:
Is there anything in my life that I am overlooking? Even a little detail that could compromise my ministry as a servant of God? If there is, I need to address the problem with a sense of urgency. If not, it could very well kill off my contribution to the kingdom of God. I am reminded of some of the great TV evangelists of our time that have fallen.
Prayer:
Lord, search my heart and bring to light those details that I need to address.
