Get by with a little help from my friends

1 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

17 Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise;
apply your heart to what I teach,

18 for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart
and have all of them ready on your lips.

When you are going through hard times or a rough patch, you seem alone. You think you are the only one that feels your pain or understands how you feel. But you aren't. You have your friends. People that know you inside and out, who understand what you are feeling without needing to explain, who listen to the things you don't have to say. I take pride in surrounding myself with those types of people.

Those people are wise and make me grow as a person. I listen to their opinions and their wisdom because a relationship is to learn and grow from one another. I do keep them close to my heart, and love them the best way I can. I also know God speaks to me through them. These relationships are not just me and that person, God is there too. He is stirring the pot, He is the other building block in that. He shows me His love, grace and compassion through my relationships with other people.

Surrounding yourself with wise, genuine people, brings good fortune on you. Others begin to think highly of you as well. To surround yourself with righteous people, seeing the world through the Lord's eyes like you do, is the highest of praise for Him. The cost for good relationships and being a good person is sometimes riches and fame; I know i don't need it. I would rather die tomorrow knowing I had best friends, more than any money in the world. You can't put a price on good friendships.
