Conscious Effort
I think that these few verses outline the different levels of sin that people deal with depending on where they are in their walk with Jesus. Deliberate sin packs one heck of a guilt punch and it also comes with the chains of slavery to sin. I believe that is why it says “don’t let them control me.” I think that it is necessary to get over the hump of deliberate sin in order to begin dealing with the other areas of our lives where sin may be tucked away waiting to jump out. Oh, but God is good isn’t he. In verse 14 we see the light at the end of the tunnel that we must remain focused on if we are to ever get out of the darkness alive. Remember that if you come close to Him, He will come close to you.
