The glory and certainty of Luke 23 and 24
What glorious truths in Luke 23 and 24 that Jesus died for our sins and was raised for our eternal life! What a glorious truth that the Holy Spirit enabled us to understand it like this! Without all of that we would be hell bound for all eternity! And yet just like Paul who was not there when all these things happened (although unlike Paul we didn't quite have the same experience he did with Jesus in Acts :-)), we can be certain because of the work of the Holy Spirit in us to help us believe the reliability of the eyewitness accounts - how else do you explain the confidence with which Paul writes Romans 10: 9 - 13? And that in the context of a passage where he has essentially just overturned the entire OT system as a way of attaining righteousness (see Romans 10: 1 - 8 then 9 onwards again)! He must have been pretty certain of what he believed given his background and training? Only the Holy Spirit could do that! And we have that same Holy Spirit working in us to make us certain of all these truths and how glorious they are! Remember John 20: 29.
