Words are important

Snuggling a 4 week old, caring for a almost 3 and cradling a computer on the arm of the chair made finishing this post yesterday more than I could do! I wonder how I ever raised 4 kids!

In a USA Today, Twitter, Text Msg, CNN Headline News world stopping to pay attention to details is not a common habit. Citing sources such as "they" is often expose our lazy minded way.

Oh for a detail oriented person when the Serpent approached Eve. The Serpent uses enough of what God said to make it look like what God said but changes in a small and eternally significant way.

What the Serpent said God said, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

What God really said, "And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

I expect Eve to respoind, "He did not!" In some ways she does but she also participates in misstating God. Nowhere does God say don't touch the tree.

Not only was this the beginning of humankind's fall but it was the start of understating and overstating God's desire, intention, or simply His words. Why is it that God's words are hand to take? Why do I feel that same movement in my life, to say more or less than what God says?

Father in this sin stained world I need to Listen intently for exactly what you mean, Think deeply about what you are saying, Act humbly on what I hear.
