Viral Christianity
We could spend a week in this chapter!
The viral (bacterial, virus, germs, etc) nature of the way of Jesus is found in Herod's response. Didn't I kill John the Baptist, then who are these twelves guys going around acting like John the Baptist.
The work of God in someone's life has a similar smell. I don't know if there is a cologne called GRACE but it seems that the work of GRACE in JB's life, Apostle's and Jesus himself all seemed to be the same to Herod. He thought JB had come back when in fact the Kingdom of God was marching on.
Why isn't modern American Christianity viral? What is it about people becoming "followers of Christ" that doesn't seem to radically alter their lives. Maybe assuages their guilt but doesn't light their soul on fire.
215,000 people in Clay County and about 20% of them go to church. That really doesn't mean anything because George Barna's research suggest the 50% of the people in churches aren't vitally connected to God thru Jesus. Shoal Creek has been here 15 years and what do we have to show for it?
Most are impressed because Shoal Creek is large 1000 people on a Sunday but is that a measure of success. But are we having a transformational effects on the community! Is poverty going down, marriages improving, divorce going, generosity growing, people growing, people leading people leading people to the Cross.
It makes me look at the infectious nature of my own journey. J2 is a journey I can't afford to miss. Father, I need to intensify my efforts to expose that which needs to be chiseled. I must risk more than I ever have to see your kingdom come in this world. What does that look like? Father, please what does that look like?
