Iron Sharpens Iron

When we think about Iron sharpening Iron, we know that there is a certain way that iron can be used to sharpen iron. In sharpening iron, like a knife, the goal is to rub against another piece of iron, removing unwanted and useless metal. As the junk iron is worn away, the new metal is exposed creating a sharp edge. The metal has a more focused edge.
This is much like when we sharpen each other, we help remove that which is keeping us from God's best exposing a new life focused on bringing Him glory. We sharpen each other.

The process of sharpening is one of finess, done with great care. If we take a the piece of iron and bang it against our knife blade, the outcome is a dull and damaged blade. Similarly if we as Christians, don't seek to sharpen each other in love with great care, we can damage relationships and hurt one another.

I love this verse it is a great reminder of our responsibility to sharpen each other and to allow others to sharpen us!!
