You would think having 5" of your colon and two scars (one 9" and one 3") to remind you of the 21 staples it took to put you back together would be a sufficient reminder from God of how weak you really are. But this morning when I got out of the shower I was reminded once again that "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble." 17 brand new shiny staples in 5 places on my belly from Laproscopic Gall Bladder surgery will be a second reminder of God's grace and power and my weakness and tendency toward pride.
Thankfully the thorn in my flesh (a dozen gallstones) is gone. But my prayer is the scars left from the staples will be a constant reminder to me that I have been blessed beyond measure to be a part of God's work at Crosspoint Church. It would be easy to look at what God has done here and become boastful - even proud of the accomplishment. But Paul reminds us that God works through our weakness, not our strength and anything that happens is a demonstration of his power and not our ability or understanding.
