Jesus' Ironic Sense of Humor
"4 And Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come." At first this passage seemed harsh to me, as if he were scolding his Mother. But then when I went deeper - looked at the vessels he used to turn the water into wine - cleansing pots used for ritual purification - washing. Wow.
Jesus saw that too. He knew very well the symbolism - the wine for the blood cleansing the sins of the world - and he found humor in it. How wonderful!
I've always suspected that God has a wonderful sense of humor. And it is my belief that this shows it. How wonderful that our Lord laughs!! That he saw the irony in this situation and it caused him to tease his Mother. I wonder if she had any inkling at all about what he was saying to her.
How I love you Lord!! How I seek to know you more and more because these small revelations into your glorious self breath life into me. Thank you Jesus for wanting us to know you, for who you really are. And even though I may never be able to fully understand you I so love and appreciate these glimpses. I will always seek to know you more, my God and King.
