Did Moses know God before the burning bush?

"13 Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?""

As I read this I wonder: Did Moses know God before this encounter? It doesn't sound to me like he did. He uses the term "The God of YOUR fathers..." Not our fathers. It doesn't even sound as if he's counting himself as an Israelite at this point, and by worldly standards he really isn't. He lived as an Egyptian, and now he's living with the people of Midian, married to one, and working with her Father.

Moses wasn't exactly the best person qualified to set the Israelites free by human standards. He want to go back to Egypt and didn't believe that he could set God's people free. He wasn't a great speaker - perhaps even having a speech impediment. And if my interpretation is correct he didn't even feel a close affinity to the Israelites after leaving Egypt. Still God chose him to do the Job.

Thank you Lord, that you can use the unlikely to do your work here upon the earth. I am grateful that I do not stand on my own strength but upon your own.
