Sermon, 2/6

We are the salt of the earth, and the light of the world.

By that, Jesus means that we need to teach the world how to be a light or salt or how to follow Jesus.

The world is not perfect, so we do need to be lights and salt.

Jesus takes our ideas and flips them upside-down. He is the light of the earth, but we need to be so, too. We need to help him out, I guess.

The world thinks too much salt or light is bad, because we are challenging their views.

We have to involve ourselves with the world to be useful, just like salt and light have to interact to produce a change, and when we interact, we HAVE to make a change. It's impossible not to.

Jesus says that we are salt and light just for following Him - not if we love him more, or mature in our Christian life more, et cetera, et cetera.

If we aren't doing our job, making a difference, we are useless. We have to let God do his work through us.
