Exceeding Righteousness
Jesus is talking about a righteousness that exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees. This type of righteousness cannot be attained by strict obedience to the law but by a new and living way (Heb 10:20). Embracing the sacrifice offered to us by Jesus is the only way to attain a righteousness exceeding that of the most disciplined law-centered life, and, ultimately, the only way to enter the kingdom of heaven.
