No King
Judges 21:25 - "In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit."
I have just finished reading the book of Judges, and my head is still spinning. The events in the book of Judges are appalling! Every day I've read in Judges, I've found myself saddened by the events; rape, murder, war, kidnapping, they are all depicted in this book of the Bible. Anyone who says the Bible isn't relevant to today, needs to read Judges.
The last sentence of the book of Judges, sums up the whole chapter. Israel had no king, and they did as they saw fit. Throughout the book of Judges, we read about many kings who led Israel. Even as Israel had a king, everything is falling apart. They have turned from God, and what they know is good, and begun to do as they see fit. But, once there is no king, it's a free-for-all of sin and depravity. Looking out for #1. I think it's a perfect depiction of what life can be when Jesus isn't the king of our lives. If we "have no king", our lives will look a lot like the lives of the Israelites at the end of Judges. Craziness ensues. But, with Jesus as our king, our paths are guided and our ways are good.
