God meets us where we are
God knew the Israelites had been slaves for hundreds of years and as a result were not a fighting people. He knew that if they faced a difficult foe right away that they would be so overcome with fear, they would turn around and flee. So God led them through the wilderness to protect them.
God meets us where we are. He knows our weaknesses and makes accommodations for them - but not so we'll stay there! He wants us to grow!
