Random Thought about Gender Wars (or not so random)

Gal 3:26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.

If there is no longer "male and female" - in Christ - and we are all one (equal) - why do we limit what roles females can hold in the church (The body of Christ) based on the writings of this same author (Paul) in I Timothy?

( 1 Timothy 2:11 Women should learn quietly and submissively.12 I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly.13 For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve.)

The King James uses the word "usurp authority" - as in hostile takeover of control. Perhaps there is a difference between an uprising of rebellious feminism which asserts rights and desires control for selfish reasons as opposed to Spirit led godliness in which the body of Christ operates giving permission for those gifted and called to serve in cooperation with each other.

This is no doubt one of the most polarizing issues in the evangelical church today. I think its very dangerous to build our theology or ecclesiology based on a single passage in the bible. We must take into account the entire counsel of scripture.
