The story of Ananias and Sapphira is a real attention getter. This was such a generous church that many people gave everything they had to meet the needs of their Christian brothers and sisters. Such giving was voluntary and a sign of hearts filled with the Holy Spirit.
What a contrast to the way I sometimes think about my giving to Christ and the Church. "Lord have mercy on me and make me a generous servant."
Luke gives us some inside information about Ananias and Sapphira. His description of Ananias's heart as filled with Satan contrasts with the believers filled with the Spirit. It seems to me the issue with Ananias is he pretends to give everything. HIs actions place him outside the heart of the community. In a church so alive this struck such fear in him that the fear killed him. Same for Sapphira.
