Tongues of Fire
Wow what great day in worship!
We have been studying the book of Acts over the last few weeks and today I was reminded of Acts 2:3 in such an unique way.
Acts 2:3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.
While in prayer during worship I was just thinking God for his Holy Spirit and how God interacts with us through the person of the Holy Spirit. I love it when the Holy Spirit is so evident that even what we call the gifts of the Holy Spirit is evident and God is being glorified through them. But if I can take this idea of a tongue of fire a little further, I hope that you will see the same as I did today.
Because our church is meeting only at night right now, I am able to attend different church on Sunday mornings. This morning I attended two much different churches. But in each place it seemed that God was showing me what he saw when his people worshipped. It did not matter if they worshipped vocally or demonstrated their worship through clapping or raising their hands, both groups had one unique thing that was common amount them.
I would just look up from praying or would glance around during their worship songs, and in both group it was like God showed me these little things that just were awesome.
It began in that same prayer that I mentioned at the beginning of this note. I just felt that God was speaking to me and telling me that we, his children are made in such a unique way that everything within us displays the Glory, or the Beauty of God.
And as I looked around during that prayer I could just see different people that were in prayer and their face seemed as it was glowing. Later at another church service, during worship, it was like God showed me example after example of this. There was a young woman with closed eyes smiling toward the heavens, an older gentleman tapping his foot, and a drummer who stopped drumming to raise his hands and pray.
But in all of these manners, rather it was just smiling, or someone raising their hands, it was not about what they were doing, it was all about how their heart was completely open before their God and in doing so they appeared (figuratively of course) to have those tongues of fire upon them, or to restate it, the Holy Spirit was completely made aware in them, through them, and even on them by through their countenance.
I know this may not be the exact meaning that Luke is writing about in Acts, but at the same time, let us all make sure to recognize the Holy Spirit in every manner that he works through us.
