Authentic Relationships...

http://read.ly/1John1.7.NIV
If you grew up in church you were taught inadvertently to not confess your sins publicly because it would either get you in an overcomer's class or disqualify you from participating in any areas of the church. Because of that hidden message we became professionals at presenting a front that we are not struggling with obedience in any areas of our lives. Every now and then you would throw out a generic, "I've said some cuss words" but never really confessing at the core that we are struggling with an authentic relationship with Jesus.

Now that I am a pastor one of the most heartbreaking things I see is people who come to church and get saved, and for the first 3-6 months they live out this passage of scripture, but over time they begin to blend in because they learn or maybe felt like they were the only ones confessing.

There is unbelievable power in this passage. "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another," This is not just some dinner we call "fellowship" this is authentic community, and authentic relationships.

God help us to walk and live in the light so that our lives can be seen by the body of faith.
