death and lying
I must admit, this selection of scripture has always left me with some "fearful" thoughts. As a child I even thought a lot about the "see what happens when you lie to God"! I sure didn't want to be struck down by the mighty hand of God. So, I lived my early life a bit on the look out for God to punish me for my actions or lack of action.
But now I read that passage and I agree with Rick, look at the heart. It really wasn't about the giving, Peter even said "the land was yours to sell or not to sell, the money yours to give or not to give". It was the heart that was corrupt. We all have opportunities to give, but it is the heart that God looks on. I pray to God, that when I give, I will give with my whole heart.
