Together in One Place
"When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place..."
It's interesting to me that the first believers didn't need to be prompted by the Spirit to be unified. Jesus had told them to stay in Jerusalem because he'd send them a helper just like himself, and they understood this to mean that they should stick together.
Why does it take a move of God, a supernatural prompting of the Spirit, to bring today's believer's together?
Unity isn't something that comes natural to people. In fact, before the Spirit of God came at Pentecost, the human race was defined by their disunity. The story of Babel's dispersion, the divided opinions of the scouts that went into the promised land, brothers fighting for the throne of God's kingdom, the repeated exile of the nation of Israel.
Disunity has been in our blood since the fall caused disunity between God and his creation. The Spirit brought unity among his people again, but it should no longer take God's intervention to bring his people together. We should know by now, we can do nothing alone. God built us to be unified.
