Day 8
It's interesting how severe persecution and the spread of the good news of Jesus go hand and hand in Acts and throughout the church's history. The set up for Acts 8 is the stoning of Stephen in the preceding chapter. You would expect the church to be afraid and discouraged but instead we find the church bold and unstoppable!
I am struck by how tuned in these first Christians were to the promptings of the Spirit. Phillip is preaching in Samaria and having a great revival. According to 8:8 "So there was great joy in that city." But as soon as he is instructed by an 'angel of the Lord' to leave he does. 8:27 says, "So he got up and went." Because he follows that prompting something happens he could have never imagine. He meets an Ethiopian leader and baptizes him. This is very significant because in that encounter we have the gospel going to a new part of the world.
Amazing!
So I'm asking myself today ... How tuned in to the promptings of the Spirit am I? What is God saying to me/us that seems strange or bewildering but holds promise beyond what I/we can see?
