Purpose of Ministry

When Jesus heard this, he told them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners."

Here's a good definition of the purpose of Christ's ministry. And a rather in your face one. I think we don't preach verses like this nearly enough!

You see, it's not about those who devote themselves and won't admit their flaws. Honesty, Brokenness, and admitting your not perfect in the face of God. We are SO flawed as human beings. And if we call ourselves righteous, or even for one minute think we are better then someone else, we're the wrong. Jesus came for the sick, hurting, longing people of the world. In reality, that's all of us.

I think the important word in the verse is not one that we'd normally identify. See the truth is we're ALL broken. The word is - think. THINK they're righteous.

They're not. We're not. We just need to realize that. We all are sinners. And when we can admit that, that's when the gospel becomes relevant news. That's why it's so exciting! It's for us! All of us! All the broken. It's GOSPEL. Good News.

Ladies and Gents, Admit the truth. Be honest. Don't put on a show. You got nothing to hang on to. Nothing to protect before God. He knows anyways. Why do we think we can hide it, or can lie. He already knows, so come... honestly before him.

There you go. The reason Jesus came. For you. and you. and me.
