Walls
Even after 3 years with Jesus... even after the teachings about loving your neighbor... after the Great Commission....the resurrection... Pentecost... after the denial and reinstatement... after watching Jesus pardon the thief on the cross....
there is still a wall between God's chosen people and everyone else--because of laws from Scripture about cleanliness and the vestiges of a tradition that separated "God's people" from the rest of God's children. Isn't it amazing how we can have pockets of "don't get it" that linger on?
But once again "the Holy Spirit just does stuff" (quoting Rick Bard). The Holy Spirit is out front, driving, making it practically impossible to miss the message:
How can you call things (and people!) unclean when God has created them clean (v. 15)...
God is no respecter of persons (v.35)
Jesus Christ is Lord of ALL!!! (v. 36).
Now that is a world-changing message. Silly Peter. At least none of us ever mess this up anymore!
