The Lord gives the people of Israel explicit instructions in constructing an altar. I've often wondered how important "building an altar" to the Lord in our day would be. Is this one of the OT elements that have just passed away over time? Or would it truly mean that we can "designate a place solely unto God". This question has baffled me for the past few months, but I've started to believe that maybe constructing an altar unto the Lord might be a good thing.

Another note is how specific God is in His instructions for constructing the altar. Don't us pre-cut stones, use un-cut stones--for this would violate the holiness of the altar and the act of building one. Fascinating.
