caved...

15 They shouted back, “Kill him! Kill him! Crucify him!”
Pilate said, “I am to crucify your king?”
The high priests answered, “We have no king except Caesar.”

16 Pilate caved in to their demand. He turned him over to be crucified.

Brutal. Absolutely, totally Brutal. Why did Pilate Cave? What was he thinking? Well, What do you think about this possibility? He caved because the "spiritual guys" caved. Yeah! That's right. Pilate was having serious second doubts. It seems he was starting to really seek out the truth about Jesus. When the "spiritual guys" told him that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, he almost lost it. He tried to pardon Jesus. BUT when the "spiritual guys" caved, that influence could not be undone. Since when do the "spiritual guys" say their only king is a man? Since when do the "spiritual guys" look to the world for anything?

Well... way too much. I do it. You do it. We all have caved, and we all will probably cave again. Here's the crazy thing: Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus. Our sin put him on the cross but He's made us right with God because we've embraced His work on our behalf. Fear makes you cave. Love on the other hand...

So... may we be people of love not fear. May we walk in the reality of Christ's no condemnation love. May we confess our sins to Him and to each other so that we may be healed. And may we the Father's children and Christ's brothers stand. Stand strong in love. Stoop down in love. And reach out in love. So that those who are seeking truth may find it.
