Only in the light of eternity is godly living always more rewarding
I like this Psalm, because I feel like author is venting a little bit. He's venting in a selfish way, because he has held himself so "godly" for so long.
Vs. 13 talks about how in vain he kept his heart pure, in vain he washed his hands in innocence. This author is at that stagnant point in his Christian walk, where things are just easy... he doesn't "feel" the presence of God... in fact, his life is probably boring. So he looks around him and sees all these "wordly" people around, and how cool their lives are.. how they get to sleep in on Sunday, they get rich, and they have lots of good parties vs.12.
Vs. 17 is his turning point. When he heads back to the Throne Room of God.
He then realizes, "whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you." vs. 25. Only in the light of eternity, does Godly living pay off.
vs 28. "But as for me, it is good to be near God ... I will tell of all your deeds!"
