brave...
brave: /breɪv/
–adjective
1. possessing or exhibiting courage or courageous endurance.
I haven't met too many men who didn't want to be brave at some point in their life. When I was a little boy, my friends and I would play army or cops and robbers or cowboys and indians. Why? We wanted to be a hero. We wanted to be that guy. You know, we wanted to be brave. So we play acted. It was a good thing.
Now, I'm 41. I have three boys of my own (a teen, a tween and a first grader), but not much has changed. I still want to be that guy. You know, the brave guy. Not the silly bravado of a grown manboy, but the true courageous and brave Jesus follower. It's also true that my fellow men and yes, even I, still play act. We pretend that we're brave. Why? because it's really silly bravado. Silly bravado can become true bravery when we embrace Christ's work in us and when we understand that peace is found in Him, not our stuff, our babe(s), our toys, or our vocation, etc.
Jesus said that He had defeated the world. My Bible tells me that Christ is in me. I'm beginning to believe even more strongly that what that means is Christ is literally in me. He is my source for everything I do. If Christ is in me, and He has defeated the world, then I have every right to be brave.
So...
May we embrace the task before us. May we in humility stand bravely for Jesus Christ. May we bravely protect our wives, our sons, our daughters and those we meet from the evil that wants to destroy them. And may we run to our Peace today. Our blessed, generous Savior, Jesus Christ who is in us. To Him be the glory today!
