REST
Since almost everyone's living depended on the land in those days I am not sure going for a whole year without tending any of the nation's fields was feasible. I suppose shepherds or other cattle keepers would have been fine. I wonder if the farmer's rotated their fields so at any given time, even with the seventh year rest, there was at least one field they were working. Of course God could have provided for them during the year of rest, which would have been a tremendous testimony to the nations. I guess it really doesn't matter since they rarely kept this rule anyway.
One day of rest is not only a good idea, it is healthy. Honestly, I'm considering fasting on Sunday just to give my body a rest. I've definitely decided to turn off my computer one day a week, for me, probably harder than fasting. Curious it mentions here, along with the rule about the sabbath, that only the name of the true God is supposed to be even spoken. Resting and worship go hand in hand. Together they are the most stress reducing activity that I've ever experienced.
