Simply Doing My Duty
We all like to be recognized for doing well. We all like to be thanked and congratulated for doing the right things. But motive is everything. If our sincere desire is to please God, then only what He has to say about us matters. If we live to please men, we are on a dangerous path. As Jesus said, "you can't serve two masters" and if we do good things to be noticed by others, " that is all the reward you will ever get."
Am I living my life for the approval of God or of men? Why do I want to be involved in extending the Kingdom of God? Is it for good and right reasons? I want to cultivate the attitude that Jesus calls for--that I am merely a servant who has simply done his duty.
God, we both know that I am nothing special on the eternal scale of skills, abilities, accomplishments, wisdom, knowledge, insight, dedication, or righteousness. Help me to never forget that and to serve You out of a proper sense of who I am.
In Jesus' Name, Amen!
