Paul and Silas: Prison Missionaries! Pastor: Richard Alberta Primary Scripture reference: Acts 16:16-24 Cross References: 1 Corinthians 11:1; 1 Corinthians 15:9-10; Acts 9:1-6; John 17:3; John 16:2; Acts 9:10-16; Matthew 10:18-19; Acts 16:25-34; Psalm 146:7 Main Point: This modern ministry of Prison Fellowship, the raising up of prison missionaries, is an exact response to the Holy Spirit as He expressed His command thru the Apostle Paul. It is a reenactment of what Paul and Silas did so long ago. Restatement: It is on the journey that we are transformed. And what are we being transformed into? We are being made like Christ! Here is the question: What are we doing to mimic Paul and Jesus? First: The missionary mimicking Paul first has to be completely converted and sold out for the gospel. Second: Jesus' prophecy about suffering for the gospel was fulfilled in Paul and Silas. Study Questions: 1. Have you ever thought of "mimicking" Christ? Why would this be a good way to live the Christian life? 2. Does this verse teach that many people are religious but do not know God? Why does Paul say "Who are you Lord?" 3. Have you ever had an "Oak Tree" experience? Did it change your life? Your walk with Christ? Why and how? 4. If you are ever hurt the way Paul an Silas were…will you be singing songs and worshiping God? How were they able to do this? What does it reveal about their faith attitude? 5. Is there anyone in your life who looks to you for spiritual leadership? Do you pray for guidance as you live out that role? What might you ask God for as you lead?
