scattered...
"31 Jesus replied: Do you really believe me? 32 The time will come and is already here when all of you will be scattered. Each of you will go back home and leave me by myself. But the Father will be with me, and I won’t be alone. 33 I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world."
So... the disciples are finally starting to understand Jesus..., or so they say. They are moving to a new level of believing that Jesus is from the Father, and Jesus is like... Really!? You really believe in me?! Really...
Have you ever been in a situation where your life was going fairly well? By your own estimation, you thought you were walking well with Jesus? Then all of a sudden... Bam! Something comes up, and your belief and trust in Jesus is put to the test? It's at these moments where we either run to Jesus or scatter. I wish I could say that I typically run to Jesus. I have to be careful at this point because like the disciples, I think I tend to estimate my walk a little higher than I ought to. I mean, they really thought everything was okay between them and Jesus. I mean... Peter was willing to die for Jesus! But by the end of the night they all would scatter. Now, give credit to the disciple that Jesus loved and Peter. At least they followed at a distance, after scattering.
Jesus will always take us to the next level in our trust and belief in Him. Why? Because while we're on this earth, there will always be a next level. The next level usually involves some pruning and testing. How will we respond? Will we scatter... Or will we run to Him...
So... may we seek Jesus' estimation of ourselves. May we embrace His love and no-condemnation of us, but may we also embrace His Spirit's voice calling us into the deep. May we truly trust and believe that Jesus is with us always. May we run to Him if it gets difficult, and if we do scatter... may we be like John and Peter who came to their senses and returned to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
