Mirror...
Hebrews 1:3 "This Son perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God's nature."
There are lots of ways to communicate. Verbal. Nonverbal. That's what makes communicating difficult sometimes. How I like to communicate is different than how you do. I may think that I'm communicating loud and clear, but you may have no idea what I'm saying. It's always been like that.
Even God experienced the difficulties of communicating with us fallen humans. So, He sent His Son to communicate. I just finished reading the gospel of John. Jesus, like a verbal ninja, declared EVERYTHING the Father had taught Him to say. He let everyone know that He was from the Father, and He was telling them everything the Father wanted them to hear. The writer of Hebrews expresses the quality of Jesus' communication with the following metaphor. Jesus was a perfect mirror. Want to see God. Look at Jesus. Want to understand God. Look at Jesus. He did it perfectly.
So, Paul takes up his pen and tells us that Christ is in us. Our bodies are His temple. Hmmm... the mirror is in you and me. That makes us mirrors. The question that follows is quite simply, what are we reflecting?
So... may we, like Jesus, declare the glories of His Father. May we seek to communicate in the best ways. May we let everyone know that we are the Father's and Christ's. And may we reflect. May we reflect like a perfect mirror our Lord's nature.
p.s. Paul explains the Lord's nature being displayed in our lives like fruit in Galatians 5 "things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely."
