What type of foundation do you have?

In the 4th chapter of Mark, Jesus tells the parable of the farmer and the scattered seed. Some seed fell on the road, on the gravel, in the weeds, and on good soil. Jesus compared the scattered seed to everyday people. The farmer plants the Word, but depending on what kind of foundation one has determines what they do with the word.

The seeds that fell on the road was eaten by birds. This can occur with individuals. No sooner than hearing the Word, Satan attempts to come along and snatch what has just been planted in that person. And without having a solid foundation in the Word to fall back on they don't have what it takes to combat the enemy.

The seeds that fell on the gravel, sprouted up rather quickly but it didn't take root. The sun came along and withered it just as quickly as it sprouted up. At times, people become very excited and enthusiastic from hearing the Word of God. But when "emotions wear off and some difficulty arrive, there is nothing to show for it" (Mark 4:17 MSG)

The seeds that fell in the weeds ending up getting choked by the weeds. This is what happens to people, when they allow the cares of the world to choke the spirit. People with a solid foundation, will look to God despite of the circumstances. And will trust in God to get them through what they are facing.

And as for the seed that was planted on good earth, this represents those who hear the Word and truly take heed of it. They produce a harvest beyond what they expected.

It's so crucial to build a solid foundation upon the Word of God. Being rooted in God, will lead and guide us into all truth.
