Scripture: Numbers 4:49

At the Lord's command through Moses, each was assigned his work and told what to carry. Thus they were counted, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Observation:

The Israelites numbered some 600,000 fighting-ready men. Adding to that their families would take the number well over a million, perhaps two or three. Can you imagine trying to get all the people of Montreal or Toronto to move together in the desert?

When God created the universe, He spoke it into existence. The words carried the intricate design, at least in the intent of the words. Orchestrating the grand logistics challenge of moving the Tent of Meeting with all its components along with a couple of million people and all their possessions was something else altogether!

The Lord specified teams for various tasks, where various tribes were to camp, how communication was to happen so they knew where to go. Moses organized the people as God instructed, and the immense job became manageable. Many hands make a big job light, as long as they’re organized, and each doing what they’re supposed to do!

With this organization in place, when God led them out, they moved, not leaving anything or anyone behind.

Application:

Preaching the gospel and His Kingdom to the entire world is also a huge task. God has a plan for this, just like He did to move the people of Israel to the Promised Land. I am privileged to have a part... and need to be ready to do my part well, without complaint or worry about the outcome, ready to move as the Lord leads and moves.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to clearly know and understand my role in your grand plan, to do my very best at whatever you give me to do, and to do so in your strength. You’ve promised to provide my every need so let me not be distracted worrying about that. Instead, may my focus and action be where You are focused and moving.
