Why could the leaper stay silent

Jesus asked the leper to not share what he had done but, to go to the priests. Instead, he did not listen to Jesus and started talking to everyone.

I know that Jesus ministry was not hindered by this. He surely knew that the leper would not listen to him. Was that his plan? Why tell him anything than?
