Does that mean Jesus was born out of wedlock??

**DISCLAIMER** I am just curious and picking brains. I'm following Prof. Horner's 8 Month (250 Days) Bible Reading System on YouVersion.com. **

NIV:

17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.

So apparently there is something significant about the number14 here in Jesus' geneology!! Any thoughts?

And how is Jesus apart of David's lineage if he is not the biological son of Joseph?? .... Think about that.

NIV:

19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

Mary was with child through the Holy Spirit!! GREAT! However, Joseph was going to leave her on the low because she was pregnant. He didn't want to put her to shame publicly. That was sweet of him. Even though he was uncomfortable with the fact that Mary got pregnant (probably thinking that it was someone else) he thought about how Mary would endure the public torment and was like "it's not worth it!" He's so thoughtful! (No sarcasm intended at all)

Hmmm, maybe he was selfish and just didn't want Baby Momma drama!? or he didn't want people to make fun of him saying that his wife's a 'whore.' Who knows?

NIV:

25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

NLT:

25 But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.

KJV:

25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Apparently, 'pregnant sex' wasn't cool then. So since they didn't consummate the marriage (make it 'official'), does that mean Jesus was born out of wedlock??

*sigh*

Any thoughts?
