Jesus Sets the Agenda Right from the Start
We saw how Jesus inaugurated His kingdom - first with His own trial by fire in the desert (in private), then demonstrating its public, romantic nature creating the wine at the wedding). Here, also, He demonstrates another aspect of it - that He is deadly serious about people being able to access God - ALL people, without distractions, or complicated rituals, without intimidation, or following the herd. His act reestablishes the foundation of cultivating intimacy and quiet meditation in the heart - communion with God is something He will fight for.
