Gratification Temptation

Interestingly enough, my dad preached a sermon on this text yesterday. He was talking about how we're all in such a hurry in this life to get recognition from someone for doing something, when we should really be seeking to know what God's plan is and resisting the temptation to try to get what we want before it's time or to get what we want that we shouldn't even have anyway. One thing I have learned to accept is that God will generally have one of three answers: yes, no, or wait. We need to have patience if God says wait, because God may have even better plans for our future than we can even imagine (see Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 3:20-21).

Really, when it comes down to it, the only recognition we should really care about is from God anyway. I know this is not always the case, but it should be what we seek. Temptation is a difficult thing - I'm tempted every single day to waste my time rather than to be productive, but if I really focus on what I should be doing, and with God's help, I can bring myself to do what God would want me to do.
