Missylou, I so agree with you on the concept of the fast during lent. I prayed hard about my "giving up" and feel that I made the choice that was right for me. But not only is it the giving up, but the added time for prayer, reflection and worship. I too grew up in a denomination that doesn't emphasize the season of Lent, but now I find that this is one of the most important times in my spiritual growth. I find that I can't jump into Easter without the preparation and reflection on the days of suffering and sacrifice that Jesus made.
