Fear Limits the Power of God
Jesus had just finished curing one of the biggest problems in this community by healing a deranged man, and what is the communities response?
'Get out of here, Jesus, we don't want you around here!'
Seems like an insane response to something so wonderful, so healing, so peaceful.
This is the madness that fear breeds.
We would chase away the peace-maker, the healer, and the wonder worker, because we don't understand how it was done.
Our fear limits the Power of God, not that God's power loses power, but that we do not invite God's power to flow through our lives.
Whether it's a fear of how our spiritual gifts will be treated within the community, or our own fear of how we will treat our gifts, fear limits our use of the Holy Spirit. Imagine if the church was bold in its exercise of the spiritual gifts. Discerning spirits, prophesying in the congregation, healing those who are sick, casting out demons, using divine words of knowledge to affirm God's sovereignty to those who do not yet believe. What a powerful church, and what a testimony to our God who is alive and at work in the world.
Fear prevents us from this.
As the church, we must learn to flourish amidst fear, to conquer fear, and to foster communities where the supernatural is accepted, taught about, and embraced.
