In the Den of the Lions
In 1 Peter 5:8, the apostle Peter warns us that the devil "prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour," which means that Satan has been, is currently, and always will be attempting to devour us and keep us from God. He will throw any temptations and evils in our way to try and distract us from the one and only Truth - Jesus Christ, the Son of God. David prayed to God for deliverance from such "lions." In the first two verses of Psalm chapter 7, David prays that the Lord will deliver him from the lions who want to rip him to shreds, and in Psalm 10, he accuses the man who reviles God as being a lion, who lies in wait to kill anyone who comes his way. There is a parallel that can be drawn up between Satan and the man who reviles God - they are both lions in the way that they behave, believe, and betray. Both behave evil and wild, and want to destroy others. They believe that they are better than others and better than God (pride). And they betray anyone they can with lies and temptations in order to bring them down to their destruction. We call the men who revile God "lions" because they are slaves to sin - and thus, children of Satan. The man who does not belong to this world, but belongs to Christ, is of God, and is a child of God. But the man who reviles God is of this world, and is therefore a child of Lucifer. Both Satan and his children are prowling lions, hungry for the flesh of the righteous and the innocent. But the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is a just, merciful, and loving God.
