The Discipline of a Soldier and Athlete

As Christians, we are compared to soldiers and athletes. While I wouldn't consider myself physically or mentally either one of them, spiritually, I must have their discipline. In order to be a great soldier, one must move past fear and obey the commanding officer's orders, even if he/she may not personally want to or agree with the plan. Jesus is our commanding officer. As humans, we want to do things our own way, but we must always remember that we've put our lives in our commanding officer, and He has our best interests at hand. Athletes must also discipline their bodies in order to win the prize. John the Baptist may not seem like an athelete, given the way he eats, but it is a life that he chose in order to be a fully devoted follower of Christ.
