Missed the whole point

When God came down upon the mountain surrounded by a storm cloud, the mountain shook at his voice. The people shook with fear. They agreed to the Ten Commandments, but asked Moses to deal with Him. By doing so they missed the whole point. God wanted a personal relationship with them.
Their reaction when Moses had been gone for a long time proves they didn't get it, and they probably only agreed to the commandments out of fear. The Mob mentality took over and even Aaron gave in to the pressure. They broke the second commandment, and tried to spiritualize it by calling the idol Jehovah. Truthfully they didn't want a relationship with the true God. They wanted a God they could touch, and feel, and even more so, a God they could control. In other words they wanted to do what they wanted to do.
Even back then there were some true believers in the crowd. Unfortunately, I'm beginning to see even more people in our churches who have the form of godliness but deny the power thereof. People who just don't understand that its all about the relationship. People who have missed the whole point.
