Trust is a pathway to intimacy, but it doesn’t begin overnight. You don’t wake up one morning, meet someone for the first time, and pour out your deepest, darkest secrets with full assurance that they’re safe with that person. You don’t–and can’t–know them intimately immediately. Trust is built, day after day, week after week. If it’s never betrayed, the level of intimacy grows. However, it must start somewhere.
