"How can I pardon thee?"

Sometimes God speaks with all His authority, and as hard as needed for the most stubborn heart to be humbled before the power of His voice. In times where the consciousness of sin is so big, and the rottenness of it is so real, these are the words of God: "You decided to leave me! I gave you everything you needed; I blessed you, and even so, you were unfaithful to me: you committed adultery; you prostituted yourself; you went after other gods. And do you really expect Me to forgive you? Where is that repentance in you?"

If I'm not willing to abandon sin, can I really ask God to forgive my offenses? If I don't want to obey His will, do I have the right to expect His forgiveness?

This is the truth: we have committed adultery. We have sinned greatly, and our sin is big before Him. If we want His forgiveness, we have to humble ourselves and repent, trusting the atoning sacrifice of Christ Jesus, and that means to abandon sin. As 1 Peter 4:3 says: "For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries."
