The angels
So it seems whenever an angel appears they must preface their message "do not be afraid." That in itself kind of makes me wonder what Zacariah and Mary were seeing. What struck me this time was that Zac ended up not able to speak because of his unbelief. Mary on the other hand, just believed. She questioned as well, but apparently she accepted it better than Zac because she wasn't punished for her questioning as Zac was. All this makes me wonder if childlike faith didn't play a part in this. Mary was probably only a year older than my own Mary (Katie). Zac was beyond normal childbearing years. Could it be that Mary wasn't quite set in her ways enough to remain pliable enough for God to work the clay of her life? Oh, that I may have the childlike faith of Mary!
