WOW! Eugene Peterson put this verse so well. He says, through Jesus we receive the gift of life and have the urgent task of telling others who receive that gift in obedient trust all about it. Obedient trust is the key to receiving life through Jesus. IT is not about trust alone, it is about trust expressing itself through obedient actions. If we trust Jesus, then we should be striving to live our lives in obedience to His commands. And those commands are to love God, and love others. The whole law is summed up in those two things. Loving God and loving people. So obedient trust in Jesus should move us to believe with all our hearts that Jesus will take care of us, supply our needs and rescue us from our sin and set us right with God. And because of what we trust Jesus to do, it should lead us to live out His example of loving God and loving people, to the point of yielding our desires to the desires of God and meeting the needs of others above the needs of our own.
