The Call for Holy Living
How terrible it is to be the one who rejects God, but that is exactly what we all do when we continue to sin. We are ultimately picking up those nails and mallet and hanging Jesus on that cross all over again. We are subjecting him to public humiliation and turning our backs on Him. Now, those of us who call ourselves Christians may not like to view the results of our sin in this light, but let us not fool ourselves into thinking that because we choose to rely on our own strength, our own will, and our own self righteousness that we are somehow capable of withstanding and overcoming the power of sin in our lives. We are not greater than the sin at work in and around us, but greater is he who is in us than he who is in the world; so rely on the spirit God has given you and perhaps you will find that sin has no real control.
Father, counsel me through this spirit you have placed in me; show me the areas in my life where I have yet to relinquish control over to you and help me to rely on you and not myself when I am faced with tempting situations; give me the courage to step out from the crowd next to you on that cross and say "this man who you and I have crucified is my King and worthy of all praise"; give me the spiritual nourishment that I need to continue to grow strong in my faith; make my path straight so that I might continue to walk with you without stumbling; In Jesus' Name-Amen.
