Divorce, eternal life, and riches...

Matthew chapter 19 teaches us several things that are of utmost importance, especially in today's society. God does not condone DIVORCE and jesus states clearly that the only way divorce should enter the mind is if you husband or wife cheats on you. In today's society individuals file for divorce the minute there is a problem and that is wrong based on biblical teaching. Jesus continues on in this chapter healing children, when one in particular (perhaps a young adult) asked him "what does it take to have eternal life"? Jesus responded with "live by the commandments" and you will inherit eternal life... Jesus also instructed him to sell all of his belongings and follow him. Jesus goes on talking about how difficult it is to be rich and enter into the kingdom of heaven....However, he never said it was impossible! I believe that you can be rich, but you have to still live according to the teachings of the bible. The problem is, most rich individuals lose site of who they worship, and get over-consumed with materialistic things. If you are fortunate enough to be rich, you should give to the poor, and continuously re-evaluate your way of thinking to ensure you are in line with what God wants. God wants us all to be prosperous and wealthy as long as we keep him first.. The last key point i found in this chapter relates back to marriage. Jesus said that once a person gets married, then those 2 become as 1.. In today's society often that is not happening, which is why 50% of marriages end in divorce.
