People are the same today as they were then.

Matthew 22 is the big showdown with Jesus versus the "brood of vipers" and the "whitewashed sepulchers". The Sadducees are self righteous men who are respectable in appearance and position but do not put their trust in God. They put their trust in who they are. They do not have a garment of His righteousness but their own. They think that their garment is good enough. They deceive themselves. The Old Testament teaches a resurrection of the dead but the Sadducees are blind with ignorance.

The Pharisees have the knowledge but fail to recognize the Lord. Like the Sadducees, they fail to recognize their righteousness as filthy rags.

I was guilty of the same. I was skeptical and failed to recognize my dire need of rescue. In the big scheme of life, I did not know who I was or my purpose. I did not understand myself! I thought I was good compared to the rest of society. This justified my wrongs. My life could not change until I saw my sins, my filthy rags and cried out to Jesus. He offered and I chose to put own His garment of righteouness and authority. He cleaned me up and gave me the Holy Spirit. Jesus is my Lord!

Thank God we can share the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ! He is the Word of God. It is by the Word of God and the regeneration of the Holy Spirit, that we can be rescued! This is our heavenly Father's Will. This is why Jesus went to the cross and why He was resurrected. Amen!
